And the Oscar goes to (My Predictions for 2009)
Best Picture Avatar
Well I had already told in my previous posts how much i like this film and compared to the other nominees in this category Avatar is far ahead by miles to secure an Oscar for best picture. (other nominations, Blind Slide, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Bastards, Precious: Based on the novel by 'Push' by Sapphire).
Actor in a Leading Role
Jeff Bridges or George Clooney
Most Likely Jeff, though up in the air (George) is a present time movie about hard times and economy slow down and the tough job of letting go people( firing people) and the human
emotions attached to it...But...Crazy Heart (Jeff) is totally performance oriented role and carried off with ease, portrayal of a fading/old/drunk/broke country music artist.
Christoph Waltz, brilliant performance as Col.Hans.Landa is my favorite out of all the nominations for any category (of-course other than James Cameroon for Avatar). Thanks to Quentin Tarantino, we have seen Jewish-Nazi films before and one has to admit every time its a chilling experience to see the ordeal Jews went through, but this film is told in different perspective and gosh! Christoph Waltz just fitted the role like tailor made one, the introduction scene of chris is a combined brilliance of director and actor.
I saw The Blind Side and An Education and did not get a chance to watch the other movies but if going by what we hear if the award is given to Sandra Bullock i think that would be just an award given to the characterization of the role but not for the performance.
Mo'Nique , if any one else gets it than its a surprise.
Animated Feature Film
Directing
This will definitely going to be a close call. James has visioned Avatar 15yrs ago but did not have the technology to make it like he visioned, so he waited 15yrs and put in 4 years to make the wonder Avatar that we all enjoyed!Quentin Tarantino has delivered an excellent movie which would have bagged a bagful of Oscars if it was not released in the same year as Avatar. The scene in which Brad pit and his troupe meet Diane Kruger in the basement bar and the whole scene of drunk Nazi troupes and them together is directors brilliance of a gripping scene.
Lets see on March 7th 2010, who really gets the Oscar

Avatar 3D - A Love Story...
Avatar 3D - A Love Story...or was it an inspiration from Rushi(Saint) Valmiki's Ramayana?

Well James Cameron did it again, and his love towards things that are out of this world and alien continues... I don't know if UFO's and Aliens exists but i am made to believe now, that a world call "Pandora" exists. No one in the theater moved from the seats for 2hr:42 min, though the 3D goggles were irritating the first few minutes, I completely forget about them till i reached the exit gate of the theatre when i had to return them.
I am not sure if the movie Avatar was any way influenced by Indian mythology, but some facts are worth looking at.1. Movie name "Avatar" though the western world knows the word Avatar from the various funny Avatars we use on instant messengers, the descent of the word is actually from "Sanskrit" language.
2. The second one, this is an easy one, people from India had known for centuries that Lord Rama (& Krishna in a different avatar) had the skin color Blue, so does the Navi of Pandora in the Movie.
3. According to Ramayana, Lord Rama was more than 9ft tall and so does the Navi's in the movie.
4. In Ramayana, how did Lord Rama meet Sita Devi?
Rushi(Saint) Vishvamitra approaches Lord Rama and his brothers to help them during there yagna(religious rituals) and ward of the demons who were disturbing the ritual, Lord Rama readily agrees and defeats the demon Taraka. Then rushi vishvamitra takes the brother's to the court of King Janaka, where Lord Rama meets Sita.****** In the movie Avatar hero Jake was also sent on a mission to the Pandora in a Navi Avatar and eventually meets Neytiri, chased by some wild James cameroon created creature.

5. Jake Sully flying on the big bird creature was a treat to watch and to our surprise Lord VIshnu (Another avatar of Lord Rama & Lord Krishna) used to fly Lord Garuda, know as the king of Birds (Son of Kasyapa). And it was believed that Lord Garuda was a very strong bird and fears none but it choose Lord Vishnu to serve.
6.The character "Tus'Tey" in the movie who is fondly called brother by Jake might be Lord Lakshmana...who knows....If i think and compare more, i am afraid i might find more reasons to believe that Avatar(movie) was inspired from Ramayana :-)
Avatar movie was an amazing experience and must watch only on IMAX or 3d.
Happy movie watching!
C U...till another movie blows away my senses...
